Introduction:
Purpose:
Excel 2010 is a spreadsheet application that allows users to store and graphically represent data in a variety of unique ways.  You will learn about the different parts and features of Excel 2010.
 
Parts: 
File Menu:
The File Menu provides users with a menu for commonly used file commands.  Creating, opening and saving workbooks are just a few of the commands located on the File Menu.  The File Menu is located in the top left corner of Excel.
  
Quick Access Toolbar:
The Quick Access Toolbar allows users to customize a menu with commands that fit their needs.  The quick access toolbar is located in the top left corner of excel, to the right of the File Menu.
 
Title Bar:
The Title Bar allows users to know the name of the active workbook within an Excel application. The title bar is located on the top of Excel, to the right of the Quick Access Toolbar.  
Ribbon:
The Ribbon provides users an organized menu of various different commands through the use of multiple tabs and groups. The Ribbon is located below the Title Bar.
 
Name Box:
The Name Box displays the row and column of the active cell.  The Name Box is located below the ribbon, to the left.
 
Formula Bar:
The Formula Bar allows users display the active cell. Users can use the Formula Bar to create functions as well as enter data and formulas into the Formula Bar.  The Formula Bar is located below the Ribbon, to the right of the Name Box.
 
Window:
The Window allows users to organize all the currently open workbooks within the excel application.  The Window is located below the Name Box and Formula Bar.
 
Status Bar:
The Status Bar allows users to view the current status of the active workbook.  Mode, Zoom, and Auto Calculate are just a few of the features offered by the Status Bar.

Excel 2010 uses workbooks to organize worksheets, charts and graphs.  
  
Worksheets:
Excel 2010 uses worksheets to organize data in a table-like structure using rows and columns.
 
Charts and Graphs:
Excel 2010 uses charts and graphs to graphically represent selected data stored within worksheets.
 
Templates:
Excel 2010 uses templates to allow users to recreate certain workbooks multiple times.
 
VBA (Visual Basic for Applications)
Excel 2010 uses VBA to allow users to customize their excel application, parts and features in many unique ways through the use of the programming language of visual basic.
