Excel 2010

Introduction:
Purpose:
Excel 2010 is a spreadsheet application that allows users to store and graphically represent data in a variety of unique ways.  You will learn about the different parts and features of Excel 2010.
 
Parts: 
File Menu:
The File Menu provides users with a menu for commonly used file commands.  Creating, opening and saving workbooks are just a few of the commands located on the File Menu.  The File Menu is located in the top left corner of Excel.
  
Quick Access Toolbar:
The Quick Access Toolbar allows users to customize a menu with commands that fit their needs.  The quick access toolbar is located in the top left corner of excel, to the right of the File Menu.
 
Title Bar:
The Title Bar allows users to know the name of the active workbook within an Excel application. The title bar is located on the top of Excel, to the right of the Quick Access Toolbar.  
Ribbon:
The Ribbon provides users an organized menu of various different commands through the use of multiple tabs and groups. The Ribbon is located below the Title Bar.
 
Name Box:
The Name Box displays the row and column of the active cell.  The Name Box is located below the ribbon, to the left.
 
Formula Bar:
The Formula Bar allows users display the active cell. Users can use the Formula Bar to create functions as well as enter data and formulas into the Formula Bar.  The Formula Bar is located below the Ribbon, to the right of the Name Box.
 
Window:
The Window allows users to organize all the currently open workbooks within the excel application.  The Window is located below the Name Box and Formula Bar.
 
Status Bar:
The Status Bar allows users to view the current status of the active workbook.  Mode, Zoom, and Auto Calculate are just a few of the features offered by the Status Bar.

Workbooks:
Excel 2010 uses workbooks to organize worksheets, charts and graphs.  
  
Worksheets:
Excel 2010 uses worksheets to organize data in a table-like structure using rows and columns.
 
Charts and Graphs:
Excel 2010 uses charts and graphs to graphically represent selected data stored within worksheets.
 
Templates:
Excel 2010 uses templates to allow users to recreate certain workbooks multiple times.
 
VBA (Visual Basic for Applications)
Excel 2010 uses VBA to allow users to customize their excel application, parts and features in many unique ways through the use of the programming language of visual basic.

Introduction:
Purpose:
Excel 2010 uses workbooks to organize worksheets, charts and graphs.  By default Excel workbooks start with three worksheets.
 
Parts: 
Name:
The name of the workbook can be in two places. 
  1. The first place the name of the workbook can be is on the Excel Application Title Bar. This name of the workbook will only be in this location if the workbook is the active workbook and the workbook is maximized.
  2. The second place the name of the workbook can be is on the top of Workbook Window located within the Excel Application Window.

Introduction:
Purpose:
The Save As Window allows users to select how and where they want to save an Excel Workbook.

How to Access:
The Save As Window can be accessed in the following ways:
1.   Save command
a.       Open the File Menu
b.      Select Save
2.   Save As command
a.       Open the File Menu
b.      Select Save
The Save command will only open the Save As Window when the user saves the Excel Workbook for the first time or if the Excel Workbook is read-only.

Excel 2010 Status Bar

 
Introduction:
Purpose:
The Status Bar allows users to view the current status of the active workbook.  Mode, Zoom, and Auto Calculate are just a few of the features offered by the Status Bar. 

Location:
The Status Bar is located below the window, at the bottom of the Excel Application.

Excel 2010 Window

Purpose:
The Window allows users to organize all the currently open workbooks within the Excel application.  The Window is located below the Name Box and Formula Bar.

Introduction:
Purpose:
The Formula Bar allows users display the active cell. Users can use the Formula Bar to create functions as well as enter data and formulas into the Formula Bar
 
Location:
The Formula Bar is located below the Ribbon, to the right of the Name Box.
 
Parts:
Cancel Command:
The Cancel command allows users to remove any data or function from within the Formula Bar Text Box and Excel returns the focus of the keyboard back to the active cell. The Cancel command is located on the left side of the Formula Bar. If the keyboard cursor is not within the Formula Bar Text Box the Cancel Command is not visible.
 
Enter Command:
The Enter command allows users to apply the data or function within the Formula Bar Text Box to the active cell. The Enter command is located on the left side of the Formula Bar, to the right of the Cancel command and to the left of the Insert Function Command. If the keyboard cursor is not within the Formula Bar Text Box the Cancel Command is not visible.
 
Insert Function Command:
The Insert Function command allows users to search for pre-created Excel functions. Once clicked the Excel opens the Insert Function Window. The Insert Function command is located on the left side of the Formula Bar, to the right of the Enter command and to the left of the Formula Bar Text Box.
 
Formula Bar Text Box:
The Formula Bar Text Box allows users to enter data or functions they want to apply to the active cell. The Formula Bar Text Box is located in the middle of the Formula Bar, to the right of the Insert Function Command and to the left of the Expand Formula Bar Command.
 
Expand Formula Bar Command:
The Expand Formula Bar command allows users expand the Formula Bar Text Box. The Expand Formula Bar command is located on the right of the Formula Bar. If the Formula Bar Text Box is expanded, the Expand Formula Bar command is hidden.
 
Collapse Formula Bar Command:
The Collapse Formula Bar command allows users to collapse the Formula Bar Text Box. The Collapse Formula Bar command is located on the right of the Formula Bar. If the Formula Bar Text Box is collapsed, the Collapse Formula Bar command is hidden.
 

Excel 2010 Name Box

Introduction:
Purpose:
The Name Box displays the row and column of the active cell.  

Location:
The Name Box is located below the Ribbon, to the left.

Introduction:
Purpose:
The Ribbon provides users an organized menu of various different commands through the use of multiple tabs and groups. 

Location:
The Ribbon is located below the Title Bar.

 Parts: 
Ribbon Tabs:
Ribbon Tabs provides users a way to organize and view Ribbon Groups and Ribbon Commands. Once clicked Excel shows the groups saved to the selected Ribbon Tab. Ribbon Tabs are located along the top of the Ribbon.
Ribbon Groups:
Ribbon Groups provides users a way to organize and view multiple Ribbon Commands. Ribbon Groups are assigned to specific Ribbon Tabs. Ribbon Groups are located below the Ribbon Tabs, on the Ribbon.

Ribbon Commands:
Ribbon Commands provides users a way add commands to specific Ribbon Groups. Ribbon Commands are located within the Ribbon Group they are added to.

Excel 2010 Quick Access Toolbar

  
Introduction:

Purpose:
The Quick Access Toolbar allows users to customize a menu with commands that fit their needs.

Location:
The Quick Access Toolbar is located in the top left corner of Excel, to the right of the File Menu.
 

Parts:
Quick Access Toolbar Commands:
The Quick Access Toolbar Commands are a list of commands selected by the user using the Customize Quick Access Toolbar Menu. 
 
Customize Quick Access Toolbar Menu:
The Customize Quick Access Toolbar Menu allows users to add commonly used and custom commands to the Quick Access Toolbar.


Default Settings:
Command:
By default the Save, Undo Typing, and Repeat Typing commands are already located on the Quick Access Toolbar.

Excel 2010 Title Bar

Introduction: 
Purpose:
The Title Bar allows users to know the name of the active workbook within an Excel application.

Location:
The Title Bar is located on the top of Excel, to the right of the Quick Access Toolbar.

Default Settings:  
Caption:
By default the Title Bar caption shows “Microsoft Excel”. If a workbook is open and maximized the Title Bar will show the workbook name followed by “Microsoft Excel”.
