Excel 2010 File Menu


Introduction:
Purpose:

The File Menu provides users with a menu for commonly used file commands. Creating, opening and saving workbooks are just a few of the commands located on the File Menu.
 

Location:

The File Menu is located in the top left corner of Excel.


Parts:
Save Command:

The Save Command allows users to save Excel workbooks. The first time saving a workbook Excel will open the Save As Window allowing the user to select how and where they want to save the workbook. After the workbook has already been saved the Excel will automatically save according the previously selected save options. This command is not available without having an already open workbook.

Save As Command:
The Save As Command also allows users to save Excel workbooks. Once clicked Excel will open the Save As Window. This command is not available without having an already open workbook.

Open Command:
The Open command allows users to open Excel workbooks that have already been created and save previously. Once clicked the Open Command opens a separate window that allows the users to select which file they want to open. 

Close Command:
The Close command allows users to close Excel workbooks currently open within that Excel application. If the user tries to close an unsaved Excel workbook then Excel creates a prompt for the users to choose to Save, Don't Save, or Cancel. This command is not available without having an already open workbook. 

Info Menu:
The Info menu provides users information about the permissions, sharing, and the version of the active workbook. The Info menu also provides users a way to protect, check and manage the active workbook. 

Recent Menu:
The Recent menu provides users a way to quickly access recently open workbooks and recently used places. The Recent menu also allows users to recover unsaved workbooks.  

New Menu:
The New menu provides users a way to create a new workbook. The New menu also provides users with a selection of already created Excel Templates. 

Print Menu:
The Print menu provides users a way to print workbooks or specific parts of the workbook. The Print menu also provides users with a preview of what will print, allowing the user to ensure the proper material is printing. 

Save & Send:
The Save & Send menu provides users a way to save workbooks and send them to various different sources. The Save & Send menu also allows users to change the file type of an Excel workbook and Create PDF/XPS Documents. 

Help Menu:
The Help menu provides users a way to find support and help. The Help menu also provides users a way to find additional Microsoft Office tools and check for updates. 

Options Command:
The Options command provides users a way to change a variety Excel application and workbook options. Once clicked Excel opens the Excel Options Window.

Exit Command:
The Exit Command provides users a way to close the Excel application and all workbooks currently opened within that application.
